"quotes & hooters"
August 14, 2001, 10:42 p.m.

"Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday"

This quote I read recently by Donald Marquis sums up pretty much what my life is like lately. I keep trying to catch up. Having to catch up. Like running in mud.

Someone else once said "Never put off till tomorrow what you can put off till the day after tomorrow." Unfortunately I don't know whose quote that is, but once again, it sure applies to me.

On the otherhand, I find a sweet comfort in those things I can put off. I say that I don't intentionally procrastinate. But I lie.

There are so many things that I procrastinate in, knowing that I do that on purpose. Like pretending.

I pretend I'm too busy to do that detailed report at work that I know I need to do.

I pretend that I've got better things to do than exercize.

I pretend that I'm so busy with important stuff on the computer that I haven't had time to sit down to pay my bills this month.

I pretend that I'm not procrasting. I'm so bad, I know, but I have a plethora of ready excuses in my arsenal about why I don't or haven't done something.

I am an expert with creating justifiable excuses.

Then I read a quote on the bottom of someone's email message today. It was a quote by a very wise person, Yoda of Star Wars:

"Do or do not. There is no try."

Is someone trying to tell me something? Or maybe it's just myself talking to myself inside my head. Simply because I know better.

Nah. I think i'm just lazy.

Speaking of Yoda. I'd say that the Florida Hooter's waitress who got the toy Yoda as prize for selling the most beer in April got gyped. She should have gotten the Toyota. I'd sue too.

Hooters management must have thought they were pretty clever and oh so funny when they led her out into the parking lot to give her the toy Yoda. But then I wonder why the waitstaff didn't question the prize. A Toyota is a bit too big of a prize for just selling the most beer one month.

Still, all my male friends think its funny and they think she's stupid for thinking she'd get a car.

I think Hooter's management came up with a really stupid idea. What made them think that they could pull a stunt like that without recourse? Why lead her out the parking lot if they didn't intend to humiliate her after all her hard work she did. Just goes to show the mindset of those who manage that corporation. So look who's really the stupid one in all of that.

Makes me glad I don't work for Hooters.
