"Kitty Kollab - July, 2001"
My cat, Mickey, likes to impress me most when company comes to the house. He loves to be the center of attention for brief periods of time and the bigger the audience, the better. Mickey makes sure to show off to everyone by playing exhuberantly with his toy mice. He becomes transformed into "Gymnastics Kitty", doing his floor excercises and performing jumps and flips, with all certainty to please the crowd. And he does. We only hope he's satisfied with the attention he gets for that, for if he's not, he will go digging out in the garage to find a real, live, tasty critter, usually a tree roach (for those of you who might not know, a "tree roach" is a big fat cockroach that's about 2 inches long and it flies.) Mickey goes in search of these tree roaches and when he catches one, he brings that little critter into the house with its wriggling body clenched between Mickey's teeth. Mickey will set that cockroach down on the floor in front of you and let it go so he can play with it and chase it and pounce on it - and you can tell he is thrilled with his real-life toy - which he eventually eats right before your very eyes and of course this action garners a symphony of disgusted groans from the guests watching as this act is being performed for their amazement. When no one is around or he does not realize he is being watched, Mickey still plays with any live food he catches before eating it, but he doesn't make that big of a show about it. Its when we have company that Mickey likes to impress us the most with his well-honed hunting skills. And I swear that's a smile on his face as walks triumphantly away, licking his lips.
